Manhole Inspections: A Level 1 inspection is a visual, surface-level evaluation conducted from the rim without entering the structure. Using high-resolution camera equipment, inspectors assess visible components including the cover, frame, cone, walls, bench, channels, and incoming/outgoing pipes.
This inspection identifies obvious defects such as cracking, corrosion, infiltration, debris buildup, or structural displacement. Level 1 inspections are commonly used for system-wide condition screening, routine maintenance programs, and prioritizing assets that require further evaluation.
A Level 2 inspection is a comprehensive, close-range evaluation performed by lowering advanced camera equipment into the manhole to capture detailed imagery of all structural elements.
